Event Details

Join the CABC for our event, Canada: Building a Smarter Future in ASEAN on October 27th, 9:00 – 11:00 am GMT+8! This event is held in partnership with the Government of Canada, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, Export Development Canada (EDC), and supported by the 7 Canadian Chambers or Commerce/Business Councils in ASEAN.

Synopsis

Southeast Asia’s infrastructure sector is undergoing a metamorphosis. The rapid increase in population growth, the increase in merchandise trade due to ASEAN’s rise as a global trade hub, and the growth of the digital technology sectors in the ASEAN Member States (AMS) are all driving the need for new and improved infrastructure to support growth. Crucial buildings such as airports and hospitals, bridges and roads, and digital infrastructure need to be modernised in order to become resilient, sustainable, and able to meet future needs and challenges. By infusing new applications of technology, sustainability, and human-centricity, infrastructure in ASEAN can be made ‘smarter’, making people safer, healthier, and more productive.

Building smart infrastructure in ASEAN is not only essential to maximise economic development in the region, but required for countries to withstand the impending effects of climate change. Implementing sustainable foundations at the core of infrastructure development and investment is one of Canada’s strengths, positioning Canadian companies and investors as essential to smart infrastructure development in ASEAN. Canada is home to the key innovations that have the potential to make an impact, such as digital engineering/construction, applications of emerging technology such as artificial intelligence and robotics, and other scalable technologies such as sensors and telehealth.

Join the CABC and our partners to learn more about the growing smart infrastructure landscape in Southeast Asia, and how innovative solutions at home are making inroads into the region’s emerging markets. Hear from leading investors on where they see the most lucrative opportunities in the future, and from policy makers on how and why Canadian businesses in a variety of sectors should seek more opportunities in this exciting and fast growing sector.
